Hyperhidrosis
Sweating is a normal physiological response that helps cool our bodies when we become hot during daily activities or exercise. However, sometimes sweat glands can overact without any obvious trigger, leading to excessive sweating.
This condition, known as hyperhidrosis, can cause sweating at inappropriate times and significantly impact the quality of life. It often leads to social anxiety and embarrassment.
Hyperhidrosis typically presents as excessive sweating in various areas of the body, including:
– Armpits
– Forehead
– Scalp
– Hands
– Feet
Causes
Hyperhidrosis can be classified into two main types:
1. Primary Hyperhidrosis:
– This type is often hereditary, affecting 30-50% of the population with hyperhidrosis.
– In most cases, the exact cause is unknown.
2. Secondary Hyperhidrosis:
– This type arises due to underlying health conditions such as hyperthyroidism, obesity, adrenal gland disorders, and Parkinson’s disease.
– Treatment typically involves addressing the underlying health condition and may include the use of muscle-relaxing injections to manage excessive sweating.
